E needs a haircut. Really badly. He looks like Rocky from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He just has this shock of blond hair that goes all over the place. No real curls, but it’s long and a mess. He’s cute as a button but it is getting out of hand. I need to find a place to cut his hair really good once; then maybe I can figure out how to do it from here on out.
blond mane
October 3, 2006finally
October 3, 2006I got some sleep. E did ok last night. He woke up at 8:30, after having been asleep just an hour, and I gave him some Motrin. Then he woke up at 2:45 (about the time the medicine would have worn off) and I gave him some more. I gave him some more, preventatively, around 8:30 this morning, too. I slept with E from 2:30ish until around 5:30 or so when I woke up. He wound up getting up around 6. I nursed him a while, but then T got on up with him and I got to sleep another hour, which was wonderful.
K stories
October 3, 2006On the way to preschool K announces that “he’s talking to me” referencing her brother’s jabberings, and then proceeds to speak gibberish for a while (amazingly similar to real language, though). Then she says, “oh I can speak Baby.”
shoes
October 3, 2006I meant to post this after we got back from the wedding, but I found black patent “mary janes” for K! We passed by the exits off the highway to our old town and so I stopped by my old Wal-Mart. Sure enough, shoes for my child. See?! The big city isn’t “all that”! I loved my nice little town. They always had just what I needed. I bought shoes for K, some tennis shoes in the next size up that E will need and two pair of dressy socks for K as well — all for less than $20! She changed on the way and had nice new black shiny shoes for the wedding. I was so pleased!
ants, take 4
October 3, 2006The exterminators came back today. I think this is the fourth time they have sprayed for fire ants. I swear, these things will never go away.
teeth
October 3, 2006As I nursed E tonight (our third in a row using the recommendation of the ladies at church to try a little Benedryl) I noticed something. He has a new tooth. (side note: one of the added benefits to nursing is that you do know when your child is cutting a tooth as it changes the way they hold their mouth and you can feel the new tooth as they are getting used to it or they use the breast as a teether – ouch! – but in any case, it’s a good way to stay up on the state of your child’s teeth and mouth.) Or at least, is getting one. I thought well, maybe this sleeplessness really is related to teething. If it is, he is the slowest tooth cutter in the world. After he went to sleep I went out to do an errand and came home to find E awake and crying. T was fed up with him as E wouldn’t let T do anything for him. He calmed down as soon as I picked him up. Put his little head on my shoulder. I gave him some Motrin. T asked him, “do your teeth hurt?” He shook his head “no.” Then T asked, “E, does your mouth hurt?” E nodded and dug in his mouth with his little fist. Poor thing, he does know what we’re talking about, and it is teething that is bothering him. I nursed him a while, and he went back to sleep. Surely the Benedryl and the Motrin and the natural painkillers in the breastmilk will keep him asleep.
