I keep meticulous files for our household. Each year I have a set of folders with the same labels, most of them geared toward filing taxes. I add or subtract a category from time to time, as our lives change. The last time I was on top of the family filing was before I had children. So, about 5 years ago. Today I actually got the filing caught up before the end of the year or the beginning of tax season or the end of tax season. It has taken me until E is almost 18 months old to get back into regular filing of household receipts and expenses. Now I just have to catch up on the last 3 months or so of entering data from credit card statements into Quicken on my computer.
