good deals

Harris Teeter is having a Buy One, Get TWO free special on frozen boxed vegetables this week. I bought 6 boxes. The boxes are $1.99 each, so I would have paid $4 for 6 boxes. However, there is also a coupon out for $0.50 off on two. So I used two of those coupons (and since HT doubles), I got $2.00 off my $4, meaning I paid $2 for 6 boxes of veggies. Not bad. Not bad at all.

moon

The lunar eclipse tonight is very cool. The total eclipse part has just about started. It’s really neat to watch the moon go dark (or be shaded, really). It’s an odd thing to see. Makes you understand how folks back in the Dark Ages (literally and figuratively) thought something strange was up with the world when something like that happened. It’s a bit freaky, especially if you rely on the moon for consistency and stability and direction. I can see why people used to be unsettled by an eclipse. Here it is a full moon tonight and the sky is clear and the moon is bright, then slowly, slowly, a shadow crosses over the moon, darkening the sky. I’m glad that we understand all of that now, but perhaps in our understanding of astronomy, we have become dismissive of it or at least immune to it’s magic, it’s mystery, it’s fun even. I also think it is a little bit sad that we no longer live in a world that pays very close attention to the moon. We don’t follow the sun all that much either, but we are more attentive to it than we are the moon. One of the things I love about the Old Religion/Paganism is it’s focus on things lunar in nature.

I like water. I like the moon. I’m really into worship. Hmmm…I was probably a Zoastrian Priestess in another life.

and let it begin with me

I got E a very soft stuffed elephant from Target the other day. He’s been wanting an elephant and, unbelievably, we don’t have one in our vast collection of stuffed animals. He has slept with it the past two nights. Today he named his elephant, “Chocolates.” Not Chocolate, but plural. Sigh. Anyway, if you ask him why he likes his elephant he’ll tell you, “because it begins with me!” He doesn’t get much beyond just singing the alphabet song (which is runs together there in the middle in a cute sort of way), but he does know the letter E!
