mommy brag moment

February 22, 2008

K’s teacher did her reading assessment this morning to determine where she should start with the AR (accelerated reader) books, which is a reading-for-comprehension program in school. She is reading at level 16. By comparison, K was at level 3 at the beginning of school and at level 6 at the end of the first 9 weeks. They want children to be at level 10 by the end of Kindergarten. Basically she tests off the graph; she is reading at the level they want kids to be at by the end of First Grade. Her teacher is really excited. I get the impression she has never had a child score this high so soon. Which is really neat. I’m kinda proud to be her mommy.

Of course this is the same child who STILL cannot tie her shoelaces.
